Scrotum
Мошо́нка (лат. scrotum ) — кожно-мышечное мешковидное образование у мужчин и самцов большинства млекопитающих, содержащее яички. Представляет собой вырост брюшной полости, расположенный в промежности между половым членом и анусом.
У человека после полового созревания основание мошонки покрыто лобковыми волосами. Внутри неё существует продольная перегородка, разделяющая её на две половины, в каждой из которых находится яичко с придатком и семенным канатиком.
Размещение яичек в мошонке позволяет создавать для них температуру ниже, чем внутри тела. Оптимальной температурой считается 34,4 °С. Температура поддерживается примерно постоянной за счёт того, что мошонка опускается ниже в тёплых условиях и подтягивается к телу в холодных условиях.
Одно яичко обычно расположено ниже другого, что позволяет им не быть придавленными друг к другу в поперечном направлении.
Основные слои мошонки — кожа, мясистая оболочка, фасции и мышцы.
Мошонка у человеческого плода образуется в третьем месяце жизни. Она гомологична большим половым губам у женщин.
Слово «мошонка» является уменьшительным от мошна — сумочка, мешочек, кошелёк.
